a major storm was brewing. and, on the eve of jacinda and daniel’s big day… the weather forecast called for: 100% chance of rain and thunderstorms.
their venue: lanikuhonua. beautiful, beach side and very much outdoors.
while most people would panic, jacinda and daniel’s attitude toward the pending storm was, “eh… we’re in Hawaii! even if it rains, at least it’ll be warm. we just want to get married.” such troopers.
on their big day — mother nature definitely delivered. the rain came down hard and so did power lines, trees and traffic lights. BUT, it didn’t bring down our lovely, sun-shiny couple. daniel and the guys made a b-line for Pho (we never met anyone who loved Pho so much. the shot towards the end of the SDE is his grooms cake, made to look like a bowl of Pho) — and jacinda got a front seat to the dramatic thunderstorms blowing onshore. it was a bit gusty and soggy… but it was beyond beautiful. their beautiful spirits lit up the entire event… and in the end, they got exactly what they wanted. a super fun, memorable wedding in paradise! –KA

Please forgive me if I get this wrong (as I probably will). In Chinese tradition — the groom needs to ‘prove his love’ before getting the bride. First, he negotiates a “open door lai see,” a dollar amount he offers the bridesmaids. The girls usually ask for $99999, since “9″ is a lucky number in Chinese.
Edmond offered… a quarter =)
…followed by a pack of trident gum and some fish that his buddies caught in the pond outside. Eventually, he handed over a stack of bills (the crispest dollars I’ve ever seen!!). After a series of games… hilarious games… the guy got the girl =).
Edmond and Mel are fun, sincere, and soooooo sweet!!! All day long, Jess and I kept saying, “they’re so cute! Soooo cute.” We couldn’t have asked for a better wedding and couple to kick off 2011 with!!
Enjoy their SDE that aired at their reception. Great end to an AMAZING day! Congrats guys! –KA
this has got to be one of our most memorable weddings and same-day edits ever. ONE, because we are officially head over heels over andy and kayla. And, TWO, because of its significance — how every shot was carefully chosen and woven together to tell their story. from the ceremony officiated by andy’s mother… to the coorindation of kayla’s surprise hula — skyping during bride prep with loved ones who couldn’t make it… even the shot of andy putting on his brother’s tie (it’s adorable how close they are).
but, what we love the most — is the opening song. see, when we last met, kayla asked if we could include a couple shots of her sister’s performance in the SDE. she had been looking forward to it for months. i didn’t think we could do it… jody’s song was wayyyy too close in the program to SDE air time. we would’ve had about 20 minutes to lay down multiple camera angles, swap cards, and sync audio. impossible. *BUT* when jody started singing.. WOW, we were speechless… and the entire room was in tears. how could we *not* put it in?
kayla and andy are a joy to be around… and such genuine, kind-hearted people (andy kept coming by during the reception to make sure we were okay and well-fed). it was an honor to be a part of their day. we love them to pieces!! –KA

wow.
speechless.
how do i even begin to explain how awesome teri and randy are? well, i guess i’ll start with… teri and randy are.. awesome. awesome-sauce. teri and randy are like family to the studio. they’re from hilo. met at waiakea high school. moved to vegas — and that’s where we began filming their love story, way back in February. since then, teri and randy have grown to be one of ARIA’s most beloved couples ever! =)
their wedding was awesomely FAB. ceremony at the fairmont orchid, reception at waiki’i ranch (i could seriously pack up and move there right NOW) — and an entire weekend with their amazing family and friends. we love you teri and randy! it was such a treat to be a part of your special day. awesome. awesome. awesome. –KA

a former miss hawaii. a rockstar hawaii dentist. a wedding fit for a queen and king (…literally, they got married at Kawaiha’o church and celebrated at ‘Iolani palace). our photo and cinema team had a blast getting to know kehau and wade. the first thing that struck us about kehau and wade was that they are a gorgeous couple. but they are also very down to earth and easy going. kehau spent most of her morning thinking about who to ‘thank’ — playing with her adorable doggies — and practicing a special surprise hula for wade. and wade made sure to carve out time to hang with the boys and watch the UH v. Boise game. so much fun. so much love. we loooove them. CONGRATS kehau and wade! –KA

10.10.10 — probably the most popular wedding date since the chinese good luck: 08.08.08.
the whole wedding industry has been in a frenzy preparing for it. like everyone else, we’ve been flooded with calls and inquires about this special day. we are so honored, and so happy that we got to spend it on the big island with erin and jordan.
my favorite part of the whole day.. was their vows. if you notice a little camera shake.. that was me, wiping away my tears. erin and jordan are the sweetest couple… with a great bunch of family and friends that helped put together a magical celebration. we give it a perfect 10..10..10 =)
enjoy their same-day edit (also, christine and our photo team’s first photo SDE!) –KA

my favorite part of a wedding is the toasts. it could be the father-of-the-bride reminiscing about the day his baby girl was born, or the groom’s best friend talking about why they were the biggest dorks in high school, or the maid of honor explaining why the bride and groom are perfect for each other. you get to know so much about the bride and groom from the toasts. problem is — you rarely get to see that in a same-day edit. luckily, jackie and kaibin had some of their best friends say something at their rehearsal dinner. and we just had to put these in!
kaibin and jackie flew from new york for their fairy tale wedding. kaibin actually picked out this picture-perfect site just days after they got engaged. it was STUNNING. everything about it. kaibin and jackie are tall.. gorgeous.. and fabulously fashionable.. not to mention a BLAST to hang out with! they are the third couple from the same group of friends that we got to film and we’re pretty bummed that we won’t get to see them for a while =( …here’s hoping for another! =) –KA

doris? a bridezilla? no way, jose! keao says, in the weeks leading up to his big day.. his sweet, thoughtful wife-to-be turned into a BRIDEZILLA!! we find that.. a little hard to believe. doris is the sweetest thing, and on her wedding day.. she was cool as a cucumber, probably the most content and mellow bride we’ve ever seen! we’re so stoked that their same-day edit totally mirrored the feel of their wedding day: fun… lighthearted… memorable! just as they wanted =). we love you guys! -KA

if you pinned us down and asked us “what was your all-time most favorite wedding to film?” — we’d say…
…well, we’d say… “we CAN’T say, of course! that just wouldn’t be fair!” but, minh-han and reff’s wedding was definitely among the top!
we met minh-han and reff through another ARIA couple, aggie and jon. they asked us if we could film their wedding in napa… we started counting down the days!
it was any cinematographers dream. the natural beauty.. the temperature… the atmosphere.. was amazing. but, more than that… minh-han + reff and their family and friends were a BLAST! they are fun, sweet, and so super thoughtful (they even sent a welcome goodie bag to our hotel and gave us presents to take home!).
we could have been anywhere… and we would have LOVED their wedding just the same. being in beautiful napa.. was just yummy butter cream frosting on top of the cake! =) –KA
